3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device Wins the Prestigious Red Dot Award for 2023
Recently, the results of the 2023 Red Dot Award were announced. 3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device, as the first product launched by 3S Emergency Equipment Dept., successfully received the recognition of the international jury, and won the 2023 Red Dot Product Design Award with its highly innovative and functional differentiated product development and design advantages.
The Red Dot Award, established in 1955, is one of the most influential awards in the field of industrial design globally. It is often referred to as the “Oscars” of the design world and is considered a compass for global industrial design trends and developments. Known for its stringent evaluation criteria and high prestige, it is a symbol of high-quality design. Winning this award signifies that the product’s appearance and texture have obtained authoritative quality assurance.
The 3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device is a product that prioritizes safety from the user’s perspective. With an exceptional and unique design concept and meticulous craftsmanship, it offers a safe, stable, and aesthetically pleasing solution. Therefore, it stands out in the fierce competition and has emerged as the winner of the “2023 Red Dot Product Design Award.”
Balancing safety and aesthetics, this emergency equipment becomes an integral part of “home”.
During the development of the 3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device, 3S Emergency Equipment Dept. consistently prioritized the “safety.” Four R&D teams simultaneously initiated the development and testing of the descent device, as well as the validation of its appearance and structure. After nearly ten iterations and optimizations, the current design with a robust and sleek appearance, a high-heat-dissipation aluminum alloy casing and a highly wear-resistant friction cabin was finally determined, ensuring the safety of the product from inside to outside.
In terms of design, the 3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device breaks new ground. From the beginning of the project, 3S Emergency Equipment Dept. aimed to provide users with a simpler and more user-friendly product, believing that emergency equipment does not need to constantly remind users that it is a “tool.” Instead, from the moment it enters the home, it should play the role of an integral part of home.
As a result, the 3S team abandoned the traditional appearance with strong “factory symbol” in the design of the product storage box, descent device and accessories and adopted a modern and simple design to endow it with a reliable and stable “guardian” role. Product designed in this way is not only easy to use, safe and accommodating, but also aesthetically pleasing to home users.
Carefully crafted, the product can stand up to close examination in every detail.
The 3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device represents a breakthrough in design, achieving a capability of supporting several persons with total weight no more than 150 kg to descend by a single device. Every detail has been meticulously refined.
One notable innovation is found in its triangular sit harness. Unlike the common circular harnesses seen in traditional descent devices, the 3S triangular sit harness is designed with ergonomics in mind. It provides superior support and security through multiple reinforcement points, ensuring a secure fit and a more standardized user-wearing process. The shoulder straps and T-shaped adjustment buckles effectively prevent the slippage of the user body. This sit harness makes the device suitable for users of various figures and provides enhanced safety.
Lv Xuehan, the chief designer of the 3S High-Altitude Escape Descent Device and a young industrial designer born in the 1990s who holds four Red Dot Awards, shared, “I believe that good design should encompass three elements: a good work, a good product, and a good commodity. Achieving all three simultaneously is challenging, but as an industrial designer, I hope that the products I design can truly assist users and become successful commodities in the market.”
